Did you see our display at Luton Central Library? If so, we hope you found it interesting and informative and, if you wish to find out more about us, then why not email us for further information.
For the second year running, Midshires was at the Woodworks festival.
Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrates all things wood and woodland related. The event was a fantastic day out for families and anyone interested in the countryside or country activities. Midshires were there to provide visitors with information about our activities and, hopefully, to attract new mwmbers for our search or support teams.
Unlike the previous year the weather was very warm and sunny on the Saturday, but slightly cooler on the Sunday. A large number of people attended the event and we collected the names of some people who were interested in finding out more about us and, perhaps, coming along to one of our meetings. A great weekend for all concerned.
Some Midshires trained First Aiders recently attended a Doggy Fun Day at Stockgrove Park, to help provide additional First Aid cover at the event. Fortunately the day went mostly without incident, with just two people needing treatment, neither of them too serious.
Midshires set up a gazebo with information stands about our organisation and, although the day was focused on dogs we had a number of people with interest in our stand (some to find out why we did not have any four-legged friends in our organisation). Information leaflets were given out and a few people showed a real interest in joining Midshires.
Midshires helped at this event by providing extra volunteers to be stewards for the day. This is a charity fundraiser with lots of live bands throughout the afternoon and evening.
The event was great fun for everyone who attended and our members were used for a variety of jobs during the day, as well as stewarding. Our help was really appreciated by the organisers and our members had a very enjoyable day.
Our display at the library looked very attractive and, in its new position adjacent to the coffee shop, helped to spread the word about Midshires to the many visitors to the Library
Midshires provided ten members to be marshals at this event. We were part of the team marshalling the 10-mile route around Milton Keynes, on which about a thousand women were walking to raise money for Willen Hospice. All members of our team really enjoyed the event even though it ran from midnight until the early hours of the morning.
Sadly, the event was disrupted by very heavy rain and a number of events were cancelled, while other had to be moved into indoor locations. Midshires' members were used help direct visitors to the new locations.
A small group of Midshires supporters shared the manning of an information tent at this event. We were made very welcome and given a prominent position near the entrance to the site. From comments received, most people attending were finding out about Midshires and its activities for the first time, so this must be considered a successful publicity event and as a bonus we had a lovely day watching the boats on the lake.
A enjoyable evening was had by all the teams who entered the quiz, with teams answering questions on subject as diverse as wild flowers and robots on film and TV.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the new venue at Barton Le Clay Church Hall and we would like to thank the people of Barton for their support.
Christmas is over for another year, but many visitors will remember their visit to the Highfield Christmas Lights well into the New Year. Children and adults alike were captivated by the displays of lights and many remarked that it really got them into the spirit of Christmas.
This year, donations made by visitors totalled more than £1,800 and were generously presented to Midshires. We would like to express our thanks to Ken and all the residents of Highfield Road for their generous support of Midshires and the work that we do.
Although the lights are over for another year, why not keep your eyes on the Highfield Lights website for details of next year's event.
Each year the Ampthill District Lions Club carry out collections for charity during the Christmas period, where Santa goes around the local towns and villages on his sleigh. This year Midshires provided some of our members as Santa's helpers to help collect while Santa toured round Flitwick and Shefford. The money collected on these nights went partly to Lions' charities and partly to Midshires.
I am happy to report that a fun time was had by all who helped and many children were very pleased to see Santa on his sleigh.

The Halloween Quiz Night was a huge success, providing an evening of fun for the fifteen teams that took part; the Village Hall at Millbrook was full and everyone seemed to enjoy the quiz which was themed around Halloween.
We received lots of positive comments about the food that was laid on and the quiz in general, the whole evening bringing in a worthwhile profit to add to Midshires’ funds.
The Support Team are already planning the next quiz night so keep a look out for more details coming soon.
We spent the morning outside Flitwick Library where we had lots of people come along and have a go on our Tombola Stall. We made lots more people aware of what Midshires is and what we do, gave out lots of recycling envelopes and, thanks to the good folk of Flitwick, made a nice sum of money to help keep Midshires on the road. Just as importantly, and despite it being extremely cold, all who helped had fun.
Midshires gave a talk at Flitwick Library about the work that we do to assist the police and county emergency services.
In a bid to make new contacts and, hopefully, attract some new members for the team, Midshires took a stall at the annual Woodworks festival.
Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrates all things wood and woodland related. The event is a fantastic day out for families and anyone interested in the countryside or country activities.
Despite occasional rain, some quite heavy, which resulted in a lot of mud on the site, large numbers of people turned out and had a great time. We were delighted with how many came and spoke to our members who were staffing the stall and, as a result, made lots of useful contacts. We were even more excited by how many expressed an interest in finding out more about joinng Midshires, many of whom came along to our next training meeting.
For information about about next year's festival (and pictures of previous events) please visit the Woodworks website.
Midshires were pleased to take part in the Ampthill Festival Gala Day celebrations where, despite some torrential rain, a great time was had by the many people who attended the annual event.
The theme for this year's Gala Day was "the Movies", with the parade and many of the stalls decorated accordingly. We were especially delighted to win the award for the best decorated stall, presented by the Mayor of Ampthill, for our cinema showing films of many of the activities of Midshires.
Film Quiz sheets were sold to members of the public, and we are happy to announce the lucky winner of the quiz was Jackie Mullens from Marston Moretaine. Jackie won a meal for two at the Queens Head in Ampthill.
