Midshires are holding their next quiz night at Marston Village Hall on the 28th October, these events are enjoyable and we are always happy to see new teams taking part.
For more details of the event and contact details please see the events Poster. If you would like to find out a bit more about the work Midshires does, then there will be an information display in Leighton Buzzard Library.
Midshires members will be out once again marshalling the 10mile route around Bedford and supporting the Ladies raising money for Keech hospice.
If you are in the area and fancy a snack to eat Midshires will be at this event with lots of yummy snacks and cakes. Pop along and enjoy the food while learning a bit more about the work we do from the members running the stall.
Midshires provided nine members to be marshal team leaders at this event. We were in control of the teams marshalling the 10-mile route around Luton, where lots of ladies were walking to raise money for Keech hospice. The event went off without a hitch and fun was had by all.
Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrated all things wood and woodland related. Midshires were there with a selection of classic carnival games from a coconut shy to paint a stone, catering for children of all ages whilst adults looked around the exhibitors stands. A great time was had on Saturday with glorious weather and a good size crowd with a great atmosphere. Sadly Sunday got very wet and put a damper on the event for the few hard core people left looking round. Even so Midshires still had its best Woodworks yet at this year’s event.
This years event was another great success for the organiser and the charity they supported (The Ancient Charities of Hertford) even with the rather soggy conditions of the afternoon.
Midshires once again helped throughout the event with stewarding and were praised as “the hardiest volunteers ever!”.
Fun was had by all the Midshires team especially the wet, wild and rocking litter picking team.
In a joint effort between Midshires and both Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue Units our members were out as marshals along the route of this charity bike ride.
Our roles for the day included marshals, water supplies, drop out points, ferrying services and back markers. It was a long day but without any serious incidents. All feedback from the organisers and participants was very positive and hopefully we will be back again next year.
Just like last year this was an enjoyable event in glorious sunshine. Midshires spent the day creating contacts and gaining possible members, while considering the purpose of the shiny new police vehicle nearby (See Photo)

Midshires once again provided a couple members to be the first aid presence at this local event. The event was successfully completed with only one minor incident but we were there making it safer for all taking part. This event also gave Midshires the first opportunity to use our new outdoor banners.
Stewarding duties again for MSAR members at this event, helping set up, then directing the public and litter picking after them. During the day we managed to invite several of the participating stall holders to have a talk from Midshires and then the day came to a close with the quick pack away, all these events try to achieve. Thanks were given to all members for the hard work they put in by the council staff.
This event was another great opportunity for Midshires to start raising awareness of the work we do in a new area. The May Fayre run by the Leighton Linslade Rotary Club had a carnival atmosphere with a steady stream of people playing the children’s game we had on offer. The day was a good success for Midshires including the with the possibility of some new members..
Another fantastic quiz evening was held by our seasoned quiz team. There was great support from the participants, with a lively atmosphere all night. As always we would like to thank all involved with the night, whether organising or enjoying.
Midshires members spent a very productive couple of days collecting outside the new Go Outdoors store in Bedford. As well as raising a decent amount for our fund we also attracted some new members and made contacts with some local groups and councils.
The Albion in Ampthill recently raised £150 for Midshires Search and Rescue Organisation at a very successful quiz night. The evening saw the pub packed with quizzers enjoying six challenging rounds of questions. Along with the quiz, run by Quizessential, there were also specialist beers to try and a raffle with all proceeds going to the good causes of the night.
A cheque was presented to members of the Midshires team by the landlord Russell after this well received charity night.
Each year the Ampthill District Lions Club carry out collections for charity during the Christmas period, where Santa goes around the local towns and villages on his sleigh. This year Midshires provided some of our members as Santa's helpers to help collect while Santa toured round Shefford. The money collected on these nights went partly to Lions' charities and partly to Midshires. I am happy to report that a fun time was had by all who helped and many children were very pleased to see Santa on his sleigh.

Midshires held a quiz night at Shefford Community Hall on Saturday 30th October. This event was popular, as ever, and a good time was had by all who attended.
Midshires provided ten members to be marshals at this event. We were part of the team marshalling the 10-mile route around Bedford, where lots of women were walking to raise money for a local hospice. The event went off without a hitch and fun was had by all.

Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrated all things wood and woodland related. Beautiful weather made this event a fantastic day out for families and anyone interested in the countryside or country activities. Midshires were there to provide visitors with information about our activities and attracted a number of people interested in becoming new members for our search or support teams.
Some Midshires trained First Aiders recently attended a Doggy Fun Day at Stockgrove Park, to help provide additional First Aid cover at the event. Fortunately the day went mostly without incident, with only a couple of wasp stings to deal with.
Midshires helped at this event by providing extra volunteers to be stewards for the day. This is a charity fundraiser with lots of live bands throughout the afternoon and evening. The event was great fun for everyone who attended and our members were used for a variety of jobs during the day, as well as stewarding. Our help was really appreciated by the organisers and our members had a very enjoyable day.
Midshires were pleased to take part in St Mary’s Village Carnival celebrations where a great time was had by the many people who attended the annual event. The theme for this year's carnival was "Inventions", with the parade and some of the stalls decorated accordingly.
The event was a success for Midshires as we advertised our activities in a new area, attracting possible new members, receiving requests for future talks and gaining good new contacts with local organisations.

Midshires provided a few members to be the first aid presence at this local event. The event was successfully completed without the need for our services, but safer because of them.
The Midshires Quiz Night took place at Westoning Village Hall on Saturday, 19 June. As in previous quizzes, a good time was had by all who attended.
Midshires members had an early start to go and help marshal the 31st National Samaritans Walk. Our roles were to provide communications between the checkpoints, provide emergency first aid if necessary and to act as back markers between the checkpoints on this 44km walk. All the walkers had a successful day raising money for their cause and the event was completed without any major incidents.
Unlike last year’s event, this year the skies were blue and the event ran as expected. Midshires members took on stewarding duties at the event and spent an enjoyable day directing people around the site and keeping the areas tidy so that the public could also enjoy the event.
A small group of Midshires supporters manned an information tent at this event. We were made very welcome and given a prominent position near the entrance to the site. A good day was had by members who enjoyed watching the boats while promoting the work that we do.
Midshires provided nine members to be marshals at this event. We were part of the team marshalling the 10-mile route around Stevenage, on which about a two hundred women were walking to raise money for a local hospice. The event went off without a hitch and fun was had by all.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all at the recent Quiz Night. We were made very welcome at Westoning Village Hall and we would like to thank all our ‘quizzers’ for their continued support.
