Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrates all things wood and woodland related. The event is a fantastic day out for families and anyone interested in the countryside or country activities. Midshires were there to provide visitors with information about our activities and, hopefully, to attract new mwmbers for our search or support teams.
Midshires were pleased to take part in St Mary’s Village Carnival celebrations where a great time was had by the many people who attended the annual event. The theme for this year's carnival was "Inventions", with the parade and some of the stalls decorated accordingly.
The event was a success for Midshires as we advertised our activities in a new area, attracting possible new members, receiving requests for future talks and gaining good new contacts with local organisations.
For more details about this event please see their website: http://www.stmarysvillagecarnival.com/
Midshires provided a few members to be the first aid presence at this local event. The event was successfully completed without the need for our services, but safer because of them.
The Midshires Quiz Night took place at Westoning Village Hall on Saturday, 19 June. As in previous quizzes, a good time was had by all who attended.
Midshires members had an early start to go and help marshal the 31st National Samaritans Walk. Our roles were to provide communications between the checkpoints, provide emergency first aid if necessary and to act as back markers between the checkpoints on this 44km walk. All the walkers had a successful day raising money for their cause and the event was completed without any major incidents.
Unlike last year’s event, this year the skies were blue and the event ran as expected. Midshires members took on stewarding duties at the event and spent an enjoyable day directing people around the site and keeping the areas tidy so that the public could also enjoy the event.
A small group of Midshires supporters manned an information tent at this event. We were made very welcome and given a prominent position near the entrance to the site. A good day was had by members who enjoyed watching the boats while promoting the work that we do.
Midshires provided nine members to be marshals at this event. We were part of the team marshalling the 10-mile route around Stevenage, on which about a two hundred women were walking to raise money for a local hospice. The event went off without a hitch and fun was had by all.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all at the recent Quiz Night. We were made very welcome at Westoning Village Hall and we would like to thank all our ‘quizzers’ for their continued support.

For the second year running, Midshires was at the Woodworks festival.
Held at the Forest of Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, the festival celebrates all things wood and woodland related. Unlike the previous year the weather was very warm and sunny on the Saturday, but slightly cooler on the Sunday. A large number of people attended the event and we collected the names of some people who were interested in finding out more about us and, perhaps, coming along to one of our meetings. A great weekend for all concerned.
Some Midshires trained First Aiders recently attended a Doggy Fun Day at Stockgrove Park, to help provide additional First Aid cover at the event. Fortunately the day went mostly without incident, with just two people needing treatment, neither of them too serious.
Midshires set up a gazebo with information stands about our organisation and, although the day was focused on dogs we had a number of people with interest in our stand (some to find out why we did not have any four-legged friends in our organisation). Information leaflets were given out and a few people showed a real interest in joining Midshires.
Midshires helped at this event by providing extra volunteers to be stewards for the day. This is a charity fundraiser with lots of live bands throughout the afternoon and evening.
The event was great fun for everyone who attended and our members were used for a variety of jobs during the day, as well as stewarding. Our help was really appreciated by the organisers and our members had a very enjoyable day.
Our display at the library looked very attractive and, in its new position adjacent to the coffee shop, helped to spread the word about Midshires to the many visitors to the Library
