Welcome to the website of the Midshires Search & Rescue Organisation (Midshires)!
Midshires is a lowland search and rescue organisation. We can be called out by the police (we are used by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire police forces, and by the Milton Keynes division of Thames Valley police), county Emergency Planning Officers or other search teams. Our role is to assist in the search for members of the public who have gone missing, particularly if they are deemed to be especially vulnerable, and to assist county teams in dealing with other types of civil emergencies.
We hope that you will browse our web site for more information about Midshires and the work that we do.
However, if you have any further questions or would like to find out more about us, please email us at enquiries@midshires.org.uk
Lowland Search Teams can make a difference to the outcome of a search. Particularly in extreme weather conditions or where someone especially vulnerable has gone missing, if they can help find someone quickly, they can save a life.
Lowland Search Teams can make a difference to the friends and family of the missing person. The family appreciate the fact that a group of volunteers have dropped whatever they are doing to search for a stranger – their loved one. Even where the result is not as hoped, we can help to bring closure to the family.
Lowland Search Teams such as Midshires can provide teams of people to carry out an effective land search in any area the police specify, at any time of the day or night. To do this Midshires are fully trained and equipped, can carry out the search with or without police assistance, can recognise and protect possible scenes of crime, and can call on the resources of other search teams if required.
To do this, our members train twice a month, with additional training as required. The training includes radio work, map reading, compass work and first aid, in addition to search techniques. If you think you would like to help in this vital work, why not contact us to enquire about becoming a member. No special skills are required as full training is given, but being comfortable out and about in countryside or town at any time of the day or night is essential. To find out more, contact us at membership@midshires.org.uk. Your help will be gratefully appreciated.
